Welcome to Pugmercs & CraftyMusician's Covid Info Site
Pugmercs have temporarily suspended our normal business practices amid a quarantine and pandemic era in order to focus exclusively on a moral imperative, which is creating the Pugmercs Face mask.
Pugmercs and CraftyMuscian have combined efforts to provide supply shortage assistance in a time of insecurity and fear. We see other stores and makers creating "placebo masks" pretending that 100% cotton or a carbon filter stops covid, which they don't. Instead, our Face mask is designed to be safer, backed by research, and use the best possible noncommercial materials including a covid-stopping filter, to create a superior product for everyone, not just essential workers, in a time when the CDC has called for homemade masks to be used by Healthcare Professionals." Our mask is more expensive than other masks, but that is because we have an effective filter, abide by CDC mask creation guidelines, and are paying extra to make sure these supplies are available.
Here is where we will update with Covid and CDC news. Updates from the CDC can be found Here, but we will outline important mask-specific information below as it appears.
April 18 news update. Connecticut Governor Lamont is mirroring New York Governor Cuomo's issued an Executive Order requiring all persons in public to wear a face mask. Connecticut is the source of Pugmercs and CraftyMusician's operations, so be extra mindful locals.
April 16 news update. New York Governor Cuomo issued an Executive Order requiring all persons in public to wear a face mask. This includes entry to stores and is especially focused on locations where social distancing can not be maintained. While we do not insist on wearing our mask, seek out a mask, as shortages are to be expected with such statewide decrees coming out.
April 12 news update. Distances of water droplet infection rate of sneezes confirmed in this MIT study, as 23-37 feet (7-8 meters). This means that per the recently created CDC's page for Implementing Safety Practice that outlines how to deal with exposure to suspected COVID-19 persons, you should be washing your mask not when you return home and were within 6 feet of a person, but rather 23-27 feet (7-8 meters), an enormous jump in distance. Additionally the CDC's page on Safety Practices states for persons suspected of interactions with infected persons should wear a mask for 14 days, including an employee supplied mask in case of shortages.
April 4th news update. The CDC released their advisory to wear cloth face coverings in public and especially in areas where social distancing is difficult such as community-based transmission. Several of the studies they referenced are already referenced on this website and were used for our face mask design. Be safe, even if you don't get our face mask, get a face mask.
On April 4th, U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams released a short video on how to create a DIY face mask from a T-shirt and rubber bands, better than nothing, and was the reason why this duo of crafters and designers stepped up to provide a facemask with more than 100% cotton protection.
Additionally On April 4, 2020, the CDC Covid page updated their guide for how to wear face masks to prevent pressure drops and secure a maximum fit factor. These guidelines for all cloth face coverings include the range your mask should be pulled down for maximum range of motion while using your personal protective equipment.
Update on March 31st. The CDC is considering general facemask use by the public. Reported in both NPR and the Washington Post, both articles reference how safety for self and others is contingent on public facemask use, for mitigating spread during the 6 day window of not showing symptoms but being contagious."
